"Barack, FISA & Why You Should Care!"

If you haven't figured it out by now Barack Obama is a politician first and foremost and like all politicians they will say anything to get your vote. Last year when this FISA Telecom Immunity issue surfaced Barack vowed to filibuster any attempt to offer the Telecoms immunity within the framework of any new legislation. Now that he is the nominee for president he has kind of switched gears. Friday he finally came out and made a statement and while he vowed to try and strip the immunity language out of the bill he also admitted that he liked the new bill!

Here is what Barack had to say late Friday after the House passed the bill
293-129:

...After months of negotiation, the House today passed a compromise that, while far from perfect, is a marked improvement over last year’s Protect America Act. . . It does, however, grant retroactive immunity, and I will work in the Senate to remove this provision so that we can seek full accountability for past offenses.

It is not all that I would want. But given the legitimate threats we face, providing effective intelligence collection tools with appropriate safeguards is too important to delay. So I support the compromise, but do so with a firm pledge that as President, I will carefully monitor the program, review the report by the Inspectors General, and work with the Congress to take any additional steps I deem necessary to protect the lives -– and the liberty –- of the American people.

Not the same as the promise to filibuster he made last year and really disappointing if you care about the Constitution and the Fourth Amendment! We currently have a president that doesn't give a damn about the rule of law or the Constitution they swore to uphold.

I know a lot of folks are thinking, "Whats the big deal? I am not a terrorist and if the governement listening to my phone calls makes me safer than why not give the Telecoms immunity!" However, you wouldn't want me listening to your phone calls and most people do not like people listening when they are talking in person. Just imagine that your talking to a spouse or girlfriend or just someone your trying to "bone" and your talking about sex and the things your gonna do or want to do and I am sitting behind you taking notes on everything you say and do! Yeah it's exactly the same when the government is doing it. Only this time the information is farmed and could possibly be leaked or stolen. You have heard about all the government computers being stolen with social security numbers and what not! The phone tapping is not the worse of it either they are watching our every move, with the increase of cameras on the streets, RFID chips in kids backpacks, all new passports and on and on. All in the name of security! We are giving away all of civil liberties and everything else that made this country what it is from the irrational and overwhelming feelings of fear and guilt of the less or mis-informed and the stupid.

We can uphold our security and not compromise our values and the principles that made us once a strong nation before the "2000 Presidential Coup"! Have you noticed that since all of this started even before 911 the only people that have lost rights and civil liberties are us. All the vows and promises to continue living like we used to, and continue to be free was a bunch of bullsh*t!

If we cannot count on Barack to do his job now and defend the Constitution what hope for change do we really have?!
